I have all four of the EmotiPlush dolls. I choose these dolls because of their easy to manage size for very young children. They are well used by many of my clients, from the two year olds to adults. Some use them similar to puppets and tell stories about moms and dads and children. I often change the emotions on the faces of the dolls and the children will come in and say something like "Why is she sad today? I want her to be mad (or scared or some other emotion)." Depending on the age of the child, they will make the changes to the eyebrows and mouth or they will ask me to do it.

I purchased the darker skinned dolls. They work really well for kids with a variety of skin complexions. Darker skin children seem to identify with the doll as being like them. But lighter skin children also seem to to be able to relate to that doll too.
I have used the doll both directively with children, asking them to create emotions & name emotions. I have also used it in nondirective play where kids have used the dolls as a baby doll and spontaneously create emotions on the doll as they play.

Fantastic way for them to relate and hold them. They hug and manipulate the lips so they have an externalizer voice. The variety of skin tones allow for cultural sensitivity to be defined. They sit and read to them, they are good lap size for teaching and Ike playing with. Soft to touch for sensitive types that don't like hard dolls. Fantastic product!

I love to use my Emotiplush dolls with kids who struggle with understanding facial expressions. We talk about recognizing facial expressions when people are happy, sad, mad, scared, etc. Then I ask the kid to show me on the Emotiplush doll their perception of the facial expression. Sometimes I show them my face and ask them to copy it on the Emotiplush doll. Kids love the softness of the doll and the connectedness to emotions they can visually see. LOVE my Emotiplush dolls!

We love EmotiPlush Empathy Dolls! We have a set in each of our playrooms and the kids love using them to help show emotions they or someone else they know recently exhibited. I have been using emoti-plush dolls in my play therapy practice since I purchased one this fall. My kids love exploring how versatile the face is and showing a variety of facial expressions with just a few changes, just like real people do! These puppets are a wonderful resource to help children learn to label and identify their emotions and those of others. Empathy is evident at such a young age, and it is so important to have curriculum and materials to foster this critical social-emotional aspect of development. Our teachers have been able to adapt the use of these puppets to meet the needs of various preschool ages. The children have enjoyed posing the mouths and eyes to match their own feelings or those of characters in stories they have read and discussed. These puppets can be enjoyed at home and in the classroom!

I gave each of them a turn to pick which face they wanted to make. Most of them chose happy or sad. I love the “hands on” part. They enjoyed moving the eyebrows and lips. This promoted more discussion about what their own faces look like when they are experiencing the emotion. I think they will make the connection as well…motion, movement, memory…it all goes together.
